Hells Bells (CR 11)

For today’s extrapaganza, I decided a haunt was in order.

When you enter the room, you hear a small, haunting chime of several bells.

XP 12,800; N haunt (special)

Caster Level 10th; Notice Perception DC 35 (to locate bells); HP 49

Trigger proximity; Reset 1 day


When this haunt is triggered, several bells ring. This causes all of the characters to make a DC 30 Will Save or lose 1 Wisdom permanently. Afterwards, once per day, the bells will ring and the characters will hear it, no matter where they are. Only destroying the bells will stop the attacks.


The bells can be destroyed easily, but they must be found, which requires a DC 35 Perception check while in the room. The haunt cannot be destroyed by reducing its HP, as it is neutral.

Jack-o-Lantern (CR 9)

A huge pumpkin, carved to have the face of a ghoul and lit up by an unknown light source seems to mock you as you enter the room.

XP 6,400; CE haunt (30 ft. by 30 ft. room)

Caster Level 9th; Notice Perception DC 30 (to see a translucent spirit exit the jack-o-lantern); HP 18

Trigger proximity; Reset 1 day


When this haunt is triggered, a nearly invisible, translucent spirit exits the jack-o-lantern and attempts to occupy the highest level character (as per magic jar spell at DC 18). Other characters will only notice the possession with a successful Sense Motive check opposed by a +14 Bluff check.


The soul from the jack-o-lantern can only be put to rest by having it’s host body slain out of range of the jack-o-lantern. (190 feet)

Love Triangle (CR 6)

A small stone monument, engraved with the likenesses of 3 daggers, is in the center of this small, underground cave.

XP 2,400; CN haunt (15 ft. by 15 ft. cave)

Caster Level 5th; Notice Perception DC 20 (to hear the faint sound of 3 people dying); HP 12

Trigger proximity; Reset 1 day


When this haunt is triggered, the engraved daggers animate. Three random party members attack each other (DC 17 Will save negates). When one of the affected party members is incapacitated, each affected party member may make another Will save at +2.


The 3 bodies (now skeletons) buried under the monument in a single grave must be removed and buried separately.
