Fireman’s Pole

A pole runs through a hole in the floor and heads down.

Mechanical Trap

The bottom of the pole has lots of tall spikes near it, and the lower 1/4 of the pole is covered in grease. The pole is 80 feet tall.

The pole is pretty easy to traverse. Each movement is 10 feet and requires a DC 8 Strength (Athletics) check. On a failure the target moves 20 feet and must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, they fall.

When the target reaches the last 20 feet, a DC 14 Wisdom (Perception) check detects that the pole is covered in transparent grease. This causes all checks to be at disadvantage.

When a target falls, they take the appropriate falling damage. They also fall into the spikes where they take an additional 8d4+8 piercing and slashing damage.

A target may avoid the spikes by making a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) to push out away from the pole. The spike damage is avoided, but the target still takes falling damage.
