Several dusty volumes line the bookshelves.

Mechanical Trap

All the books on any one bookshelf are connected via twine that runs through the binding of each book.

A DC 12 Wisdom (Perception) check reveals that every other book has twine coming out of the binding and going into the adjacent book.

When a book is removed, the entire shelf of books comes out first, followed by the rest of the books on the other shelves on the same bookshelf. The creature pulling out the book must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, or take 1d2 bludgeoning damage and become restrained under a pile of books.

Escaping the pile of books requires a successful DC 12 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check, or 1d4 turns of picking up books and moving them. The 5′ cube in front of the bookshelf becomes difficult terrain.

The trap can be easily disabled by cutting the twine cord from the book(s) being removed.
