Self-Conscious Mirror

A mirror is set over the low fireplace. A fire burns gently in the fireplace.

Magical Trap

The fire causes the reflections in the mirror to have a disturbing, ego-crushing effect on viewers.

Anyone who sees their own reflection in the mirror must make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw or suffer disadvantage on attack rolls, ability rolls, saving throws for 1 minute. The creature also cannot cast spells. At the end of each of the creature’s turns, it may make another saving throw to end the effect.

A creature sees it’s reflection if it searches the room or mirror. Once a creature is within 10′ of the mirror, it requires a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw to avoid seeing its own reflection.

A spell or other effect that can sense the presence of magic, such as Detect Magic, reveals an aura of enchantment on the fire.

A spell such as Dispel Magic cast onto the fire will extinguish the fire and end the reflection ability of the mirror, and also end any ongoing effects. Any effect that suppresses magic causes the fire to be put out for the duration of the effect. This also suppresses the reflection ability of the mirror and any ongoing effects for the duration.

The fire is magical and nature and cannot be put out normally. Magical means of extinguishing the fire succeed on a DC 14 Intelligence (Arcana) check. A successful check acts as if the dispel magic were cast above.
