Mudslide (CR 3)



The way ahead is blocked, as the corridor has been covered in mud and rocks from a slight cave-in.

Type: mechanical; Perception DC 21; Disable Device DC 24

Trigger touch; Reset none

Effect

If the PC’s start to clear the mudslide, it triggers another mudslide behind them, trapping them here. Each mudslide takes 2d6+1 hours to clear.

    The problem with this trap is that it offers very little in the way of interactivity. It doesn’t pose much in the way of mechanical threats, stops the PCs for 2d6+1 hours, and offers little they can do. There are no saves, no skill checks, and at the end, even with a successful perception and disable device check, they have to spend 2d6+1 hours removing this blockage. Although you could provide something to do while they clear it out (a monster encounter, some sort of environmental hazard, etc), there isn’t much that could take up that amount of time, which just results in what feels like an event where there wasn’t much actual consequence, just kind of a waste of time.
